Completion of a Major Railway Electrification Modernisation Project in Latvia

In September 2026, the “Modernisation and Development of the Electrified Railway Network” project implemented by VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” was completed. EMP-707, together with other project partners, participated in the implementation of this major infrastructure project.

The project involved extensive modernisation and development of railway electrification infrastructure within the Riga railway junction and towards Jūrmala, including the sections Rīga pasažieru–Zemitāni, Zasulauks–Bolderāja and Imanta–Sloka.

More than 100 kilometres of modernised infrastructure

As a result of the project, 103 km of electrified railway infrastructure was modernised and developed.

The project included the construction and reconstruction of overhead contact lines, modernisation of the traction power supply infrastructure, as well as reconstruction and adaptation of signalling and communication systems associated with the railway infrastructure.

The development of the Zasulauks–Bolderāja section is particularly significant, as a new overhead contact line was constructed, extending Latvia’s electrified railway network and creating opportunities for wider use of electric traction.

EMP-707 experience in a major infrastructure project

Participation in a project of this scale represents an important part of EMP-707’s professional experience in railway electrification and electrical infrastructure.

Successful implementation required close cooperation between the client, construction participants, suppliers and technical partners, as well as effective coordination of works carried out on operational railway infrastructure.

EMP 707 expands operations – new branch opened in Latvia

In April 2026, EMP 707 opened a branch in Latvia, continuing its strategic expansion in the Baltic region.

The new structure enables the company to ensure local presence, more efficient project management, and closer cooperation with clients, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

The establishment of the branch confirms the company’s long-term commitment to developing electrical infrastructure and railway electrification projects in Latvia and across Europe.
